Ilha Grande ist grundsätzlich nicht so weit entfernt von unserem letzten Ferienort Parati, doch eine Reise durch den Dschungel und über Wasser kann doch eine ganze Weile dauern .... So dauerte
die Busreise anstelle von 1h (ist zumindest was wir auf Portugiesisch verstanden haben) 2h und so mussten wir mit dem Taxi zum Bootssteg sausen um noch das Schiff (welches sogar auf uns gewartet
hatte) nach Ilha Grande zu erwischen. War ein lustiges Bild, ein vollgepacktes Schiff wartete auf die zwei Schweizer Chicks welche mit ihren Rollkoffern über den Steg rannten!
Ilha Grande ist eine Trauminsel, ohne Autos, einigen Strandrestaurants und Dschungel im Hintergrund. Der Strand Lopes Mendes, war unser Lieblingsplatz auf der Insel, ein traumhafter Strand mit
fast weissem Sand, klarem und warmen Meerwasser und keinen Leuten. Nur ein gestrandeter (toter) Wal und somit unzählige Assgeier, welche sich am frischen Sushi erfreuten, leistete uns
Gesellschaft! Am nächsten Tag brachte uns ein Boot zu den schönen Schnorchelplätzen Lagoa Azul und Verde, wo wir aus nächster Nähe unzählige farbige Fische bestaunten und uns auf dem Boot dem
Nichtstun hingeben konnten. Alles in Allem drei wunderschöne relaxende Tage mit viel Sonnenschein!
Ein kurzer Flug nach Salvador de Bahia brachte uns in ein anderes Brasilien. Die Stadt Salvador ist sehr bunt und lebhaft und viele der Einwohner kommen ursprünglich aus Afrika. Leider gibt es
auch eine beträchtliche Armut, die in der Stadt nicht zu übersehen ist. Die heissen Temperaturen machten uns das Leben schwer und zwangen uns nach dem Motto “weniger ist mehr” zu leben. Wir
schlenderten durch die hübschen Gässchen, welche umzäumt sind von schönen Kolonialhäusern mit pastellfarbenem Anstrich, die wenigstens ein wenig Schatten spendeten. Ein Ausflug zum bekannten
Hafen und auf den Markt rundeten den Besuch ab, bevor wir auf die nahe Insel Morro de Sao Paulo fuhren.

In general Ilha Grande is not fare away from our last resort Parati but a trip through the jungle and over water can take a while …. So our bus ride took double the time than what we understood
in Portuguese (but maybe the issue is our language skills) and for this reason we had to hurry quit a lot to catch the boot to Ilha Grande, in fact the boat was waiting for us while we very
running with our luggage along the pier, quit a funny scene …!
Ilha Grande is a paradise, no cars, just a few beach restaurants and the jungle in the background! The beach Lopes Mendes impressed us most, a dream beach with nearly white sand, clear blue water
and no people at all! Only a whale kept us company, but he was dead and the birds enjoyed the fresh sushi very much. The following day we went on a boat trip to explore Lagoa Azul and Lagoa
Verde, very nice places for snorkelling and watching the colourful fishes! We enjoyed three amazing days on the island with a lot of sunshine and enjoying doing nothing!
A short flight brought us to Salvador, the other Brazil. The city is very colourful and vibrant and most of the citizens have their roots in Africa. The poverty rate is quit high in Salvador
which unfortunately can easily be seen on the streets. The high temperatures made us doing less and less, we enjoyed the colourful old town with the lovely colonial houses and visited the well
known port and a local craft market, before we moved on to the close by island Morro de Sao Paulo.
